“Rumble on the River” Forum, June 2024

“Rumble on the River Community Forums” is a series of panel discussions that have been organzied by Portland area climate and social justice advocates. Each event brings experts to together to discuss problems and remedies related to the Critical Energy Infrasructure (CEI) hub where 90 percent of Oregon’s fuel supply is stored.

The following video was recorded at the Rumble on the River Forum on June 7, 2024. The discussion highlighted the risks associated with the CEI hub, especially those related to a catastrophic seismic event and the role that fossil fuel risk bonds could play in mitigating some of the costs to the community that would result from such an event.

The panelists are Multnomah County Commissioner Sharon Meieran, Chris Voss, Director of Multnomah Country Office of Emergency Management, This Land Board Member, Melanie Plaut, Mary King, Professor Emeritus of Economics, Risky Business, and John Talberth, President and Senior economist at Center for Sustainable Economy.
